LEIPA Receives SBTi Endorsement for Science-Based Climate Targets

The independent Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has confirmed that LEIPA’s climate targets align with the latest scientific standards. The initiative is recognized globally as a benchmark for ambitious corporate decarbonization strategies. With this endorsement, the LEIPA Group reaffirms its commitment to supporting the global goals of the Paris Agreement (limiting global warming to 1.5°C) as well as national climate targets.
Concrete, Measurable Climate Targets
LEIPA has set ambitious targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions:
- By 2030: 42% reduction in absolute CO₂ emissions (Scope 1, 2 & 3) compared to 2021
- By 2045: 90% reduction in absolute CO₂ emissions compared to 2021
Transparency and Responsibility Across the Entire Value Chain
The energy-intensive paper industry has a significant responsibility in addressing climate change. LEIPA is rising to this challenge with a holistic strategy that goes beyond its own production processes. In addition to reducing direct emissions (Scope 1 & 2), LEIPA places a strong emphasis on Scope 3 emissions, which include CO₂ emissions across the entire value chain. In 2021, these emissions amounted to 0.8 million metric tons of CO₂e. LEIPA collaborates closely with its suppliers to develop effective measures for reducing emissions.

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) was founded in 2015 by CDP, the UN Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and WWF. It provides companies with a clearly defined framework for reducing emissions in line with the latest scientific findings. More than 6,000 companies worldwide have already joined the initiative.
